Save, Cloud & Cross-Save Recovery
A fail-safe decision path for local saves, platform cloud conflicts and Crimson Desert Cross-Save recovery.
The objective is to preserve the newest known-good save before any upload, download, replacement or reinstall. Recovery is a data-protection operation, not a race to dismiss the warning.
Patch 1.16.04 equipment-quantity fix
Section titled “Patch 1.16.04 equipment-quantity fix”Patch 1.16.04 fixes a fault where receiving certain equipment and then saving and reloading could make the quantity of other equipment incorrect. The official notice confirms the fix but does not identify every triggering item or promise automatic repair of an already affected save.
Before continuing an older save that shows suspicious quantities:
- install Version 1.17.00 (or later) and confirm the build on the title screen;
- preserve the last known-good manual, platform-cloud and Cross-Save copies;
- create a separate manual test slot without overwriting the recovery point;
- record the relevant equipment names and quantities;
- quit normally, reload once and compare the same entries;
- if any quantity changes, stop saving and report the platform, build, item names, quantities and timestamps.
Do not sell, dismantle, duplicate or transfer equipment merely to force the totals to recalculate. That is not an official recovery method and can destroy the clean comparison evidence.
Patch 1.16.02 loading fix
Section titled “Patch 1.16.02 loading fix”Patch 1.16.02 fixes the persistent loading-screen or black-screen fault that could occur while loading save data. On the current Version 1.17.00 build, do not use the fix as permission to overwrite or delete a save: preserve the newest known-good copy first. If the fault returns, record the platform, build, slot and whether another preserved save loads, then report it as a possible regression. Steam Mac is available; Mac App Store rollout remains in progress.
Save layers
Section titled “Save layers”Keep the layers distinct:
| Layer | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Automatic save | Normal game-state protection |
| Manual save | A player-created recovery point |
| Platform cloud | Synchronises the platform’s save data |
| Cross-Save slot | The dedicated Crimson Desert transfer slot for linked platforms |
A platform cloud save and the in-game Cross-Save slot are not interchangeable.
Before any transfer
Section titled “Before any transfer”- Install the current verified patch on both systems.
- Record the current character, location and progress.
- Create a new manual save.
- Confirm the manual save appears after returning to the load menu.
- Allow the platform cloud operation to finish.
- Photograph or record timestamps when copies differ.
- Link only the intended platform accounts.
- Keep the source system untouched until the destination is verified.
Official Cross-Save workflow
Section titled “Official Cross-Save workflow”Pearl Abyss’s official procedure is:
- Open Save Game.
- Select Cross-Save Settings.
- Follow the displayed link or QR code.
- Sign in and connect the intended platform accounts.
- Return to the game.
- Select Refresh.
- Use the Cross-Save slot in the Save Game menu.
- Upload the save that should continue on another connected platform.
After loading on the destination, confirm progress before making a new save.
Cloud conflict decision
Section titled “Cloud conflict decision”When shown two versions:
- Stop and compare timestamps.
- Compare visible progress, not timestamp alone.
- Identify which device last completed a valid session.
- Preserve evidence of both copies.
- Choose only after the source of truth is clear.
- Open the selected copy and immediately create a new manual slot.
- Confirm synchronisation before closing the game.
If the newest copy cannot be identified, stop and seek platform or Pearl Abyss support. Repeatedly choosing different copies can destroy the only good state.
Missing or damaged save
Section titled “Missing or damaged save”- do not start a long new session in the same slots;
- do not overwrite every manual slot;
- do not unlink accounts impulsively;
- do not reinstall before confirming where saves are stored;
- preserve screenshots, error text and timestamps;
- check whether the load menu marks a copy corrupted or invalid;
- record the last successful platform, patch and session;
- contact official support with the full record.
Destination verification
Section titled “Destination verification”A transfer is complete only when:
- the destination loads the expected character and location;
- story, inventory and completion state are plausible;
- the patch matches the source;
- a new manual save can be created;
- the destination copy survives quit and reload;
- the source remains preserved until all checks pass.
Recovery report packet
Section titled “Recovery report packet”Include:
- source and destination platforms;
- current verified patch on each;
- account-link state;
- local, cloud and Cross-Save timestamps;
- last known-good character, location and objective;
- exact warning or error;
- actions already taken;
- screenshots with private account details removed.
Never share passwords, recovery codes or platform tokens in a report.
